In a commendable celebration of academic excellence, the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) and Vatebra Limited jointly awarded Oyediran Akinloye the coveted title of overall best student in the 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Akinloye, whose stellar performance distinguished him, received a noteworthy cash prize of N500,000.
The recognition didn’t stop there, as three other exceptional students, namely Pinn Margaret, Ede-Oballa, and Mgbemele Amarachi, were also honored with well-deserved rewards.
The cash awards were formally presented to the accomplished students during the 61st annual meeting of the Nigeria National Council of the West Africa Examinations Council.
The event took place at the Taal Conference Centre in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
In a statement, Ben Iyoha, the Head of Brand and Communications at Vatebra Limited, emphasized the company’s commitment to acknowledging the pivotal role of education in societal progress.

This year’s award ceremony took place at the 61st annual meeting of the Nigeria National Council of the West Africa Examinations Council held at the Taal Conference Centre, Lafia Nasarawa state. The awards for this year’s edition were for the Best Public Secondary School in the Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) which went to Pinn Margaret Secondary Commercial School, Calabar-South, Cross River State.
The Best Overall Public Secondary School in all subjects which went to Girls’ Secondary School, Ede-Enu, Ede-Oballa, Nsukka Enugu State.
“In the same manner, the Best Overall Candidate in Public Secondary Schools (Male) was awarded to Oyediran Felix Akinloye of Command Science Secondary School, Saki, Oyo State; while the Best Overall Candidate in Public Secondary Schools (Female) went to Mgbemele Blessing Amarachi of Government Science Secondary School, Pyakasa, Maitama, Abuja.”

Iyoha highlighted the careful selection process for the awardees, emphasizing their demonstration of perseverance and exceptional intellectual capabilities throughout their academic journey. Stressing the importance of supporting students from public schools, he affirmed that the annual award aims to encourage and inspire outstanding performance among the youth.
