The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has announced the suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in several Nigerian universities for the 2025/2026 academic session.
This action was taken because these universities allegedly failed to comply with the necessary regulatory procedures for running the programme.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, listed the affected institutions. These include:
Kwara State University, Malete, Ilorin, Kwara State
Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State
Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State
Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State
Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba State
Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State
Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State
Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State
According to the statement, the suspension of the Law programme at the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, will last for two academic sessions—specifically for the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 sessions.
This means that JAMB will not process or approve any admissions for students who wish to study Law in these universities during the specified period. As a result, prospective students seeking admission into these institutions for a Law degree will have to look for alternatives in other accredited universities that meet the necessary requirements.
The decision by JAMB serves as a warning to universities to strictly adhere to regulatory guidelines before offering professional courses like Law. It also aims to ensure that students receive quality legal education in accredited institutions that meet the required standards.
