The Lords are the highly esteemed in the society, people placed in power from whose mouth decree is sent forth and whose decree authority is established. They are people of influence and dignity; their opinions in society are mostly considered as a directive. They are placed in positions or offices that exalt them from a common man, and they oversee the affairs of the people under them, either directly or indirectly.

The lords are rulers, kings, leaders, and captains of political or religious parastatals. They make decisions in government and determine how they are executed.

Oftentimes, some of the Lords are those not directly in power (political), but the strength of the economy is leaned on their arm. From there, they even make the decision of what happens in the government; these are the people who employ a large number of citizens. What they produce is consumed by millions of citizens, and their names or the names of their Industries have become a brand that an ordinary man in society knows and benefits from.

In the United States of America (USA) in 1869, Shortly after the Civil War and the death of Abraham Lincoln, the Nation was devastated, and the economy pulled down. But some Lords, from their thoughtful and people centered ideas, brought America back to form; out of these great people, Cornelius Vanderbit, popularly known the commodore, was been regarded as the Lord of the rails, as he controlled more than 60% of the railroads in America.

He determined the movement of people from one state to the other, he was indeed the Lord of the rails in his time. In Nigeria, some leaders have taken the place of the Lord in one way or another. There are many leaders to be mentioned, to mention just a few significant ones. The coming of Chief Olusegun Matthew Okikiola Aremu Obasanjo into office May 29, 1999, brought a sporadic change by bringing in the Telecommunications system to Nigeria. This is one of the most outstanding achievements made by Nigerian leaders so far, the introduction of mobile Telecommunications into the country was a significant break forth that linked the Country with Nations of the world and brought the country into connection with Nations that are hungry for business deals with Nigeria.

Mobile calls have become so easy that if I have my phone, I can communicate with someone from a far distance. That’s the beauty of technology. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo also brought some exceptional achievements into Nigeria. ICPC, EFCC were established during his tenure to curtail the spread of corruption in Nigeria and to give our economy a glorious look.

In his tenure, Nigeria’s GDP grew by 7% under OBJ, contrary to 2% in 1999, despite selling oil at $30 per barrel. OBJ built Nigeria’s best and highest-capacity stadium, the Abuja National Stadium. Without any doubt, OBJ is worthy to be called a Lord. He knew what it meant to be a Lord; he understood the steps he needed to take leadership to the people, he also knew the channels through which he would engage people in his followership and nation-building. Nigerians can’t keep talking about the good deeds of the former president, Chief Olusegun Matthew Okikiola Obasanjo. He was a leader of good repute, both in his first and second term (1999-2007).

The employment rate increased so much and its effect on the economy was enormous. He was a great leader indeed in his time who had the heart to serve, and his vision was so bright to see the Nigeria ahead. His vision was so bright that he could see what the Nation need and what would be of benefit to them in years to come.

This is the passion of a true leader, their vision and capability to serve the people drives them in whatever decision they make. They love creating new things out of nothing and their heart is so firm towards daring a risk. A true leader’s passion to serve and lead the people brings good result to them in office, and even after serving the people.

This could be regarded as a pedestal to national development in this Country Nigeria if only our elected leaders would see the greatness that lies under the shell of our country. If any of these leaders would stand tall to the fore-front and face the challenge, soon, Nigeria will become great.
