Prince Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, has been chosen as the new Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland by the kingmakers.

His election has been approved by Governor Ademola Adeleke. The previous Owa-Obokun, Oba Gabriel Aromolaran, passed away in September 2024 after ruling for 42 years, leading to a mourning period and the start of the process to select his successor.

Earlier in December, a court had ordered a pause in the election process due to a legal case, but the kingmakers proceeded to vote on Friday. Prince Haastrup, from the Bilaro Olu-Odo Ruling House, was declared the winner after receiving the highest votes.

The announcement was made by the Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs. Felicia Olabimtan, and later confirmed by the Osun State Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi. Governor Adeleke congratulated the new monarch, urging the people of Ijesaland to support him and maintain peace and unity.

Heavy security was present in Ilesa during the announcement to prevent any unrest, with military and police stationed at key locations in the town.
