On Sunday night, armed gunmen invaded the residence of Benue State Commissioner of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Matthew Abo, abducting him from his country home in Zaki Biam, Ukum Local Government Area of the state.

The incident unfolded at approximately 8:00 PM, as Commissioner Abo, along with his family members, was present at home when the assailants struck. The gunmen, arriving on four motorcycles, forcibly entered the residence and ordered everyone, including the commissioner’s wife and children, to lie face down.

Eyewitnesses on the scene reported that the kidnappers then seized Commissioner Abo and spirited him away to an unknown location on one of the motorcycles. During the abduction, they compelled the commissioner to sit behind the rider of one motorcycle while a gunman closely monitored him.

Commissioner

Matthew Abo, who was among the 17 commissioners sworn in on August 29, 2023, by Governor Hyacinth Alia, had been a key figure in the state’s administration.

He said, “Yes he was kidnapped. Unfortunately, he was kidnapped in his country home in Ukum LGA, around 8pm on, Sunday, September 24, 2023.

“He was home with his family, children and his people when the armed men came in. They forced him to a bike.

“We received the unfortunate development and His Excellency, Governor Hyacinth Alia has already directed and detailed the security operatives to ensure his safe release from the kidnappers’ den.”

According to report, the Benue State government and law enforcement agencies are working diligently to secure the safe release of Commissioner Abo and bring the perpetrators to justice.
