Unidentified gunmen targeted the Adamawa State Police Headquarters in Yola during the early hours of Wednesday, plunging the city into panic.
The police headquarters, situated in the heart of Jimeta community in Yola North local government area, witnessed a barrage of gunfire that echoed through the air for approximately 30 minutes, leaving residents on edge.
A resident, reported the unsettling sounds of gunshots, describing a tense atmosphere during the attack.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the assault, assuring the public that the situation was under control. Nguroje disclosed that the attack had been successfully repelled, although the identities of the assailants remained unknown.
Speculations surfaced suggesting the attackers could be military personnel on a revenge mission, allegedly sparked by the killing of a military officer by the police. However, these claims have yet to be independently verified.
Investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the attack and identify those responsible.
This incident follows recent tensions between officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and personnel of the Nigerian Air Force.
