Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, professionally known as Burna Boy has made history as the first African artist to be nominated for Grammy for six years consecutively.
Burna Boy’s hit song, ‘Higher’, is nominated in the Best African Music Performance category at the 2024 Grammys.
The ‘African Giant’ crooner has earned back to back Grammy nominations since 2018, which is actually rare in the African music industry.
Burna has gathered a total of 11 nominations, winning just one.
Tems on the other hand is the Nigerian artist with the most nominations at the 67th Grammys. The singer was nominated in three categories.
Tems received nominations in the Best Global Music Album, Best African Music Performance and Best R&B Song categories for ‘Born In The Wild’, ‘Love Me Jeje’, and ‘Burning’.
Burna Boy won Best International Act at the BET Awards, and was named an Apple Music Up Next artist in 2019. The singer released his fourth studio album, ‘African Giant’ which went on to win Album of the Year at the All Africa Music Awards and was nominated for Best World Music Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.
‘Rolling Stone’ ranked Burna number 197 on its list of the 200 greatest singers of all time in 2023. Burna Boy also won his fourth Best International Act at the BET Awards in 2023. The musician won The Headies Afrobeats Single of the Year category and also the Song of the Year for ‘Last Last’.
Burna Boy had risen to stardom in the year 2012 after releasing ‘Like to Party’ the lead single from his debut studio album L.I.F.E. In 2017, Burna Boy signed with Atlantic Records in the United States to release his third studio album, Outside in 2018.
‘Sittin on Top of the World’ received a nomination for Best Melodic Rap Performance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. The singer performed the song at the ceremony on 4 February 2024, alongside Brandy and 21 Savage.
