Nigerian forward Chiamaka Okwuchukwu has been named among the final contenders for the prestigious 2024 CAF Women’s Young Player of the Year award.

The talented Falconets striker earned her nomination following an impressive showing at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, where she showcased her skills on the global stage.

Okwuchukwu, a standout performer for Chris Danjuma’s team, netted two goals in four matches during the tournament. Despite her contributions, the Falconets were eliminated by Japan in the Round of 16, falling short of advancing to the latter stages of the competition.

Nevertheless, her performances caught the attention of football analysts and fans alike, cementing her status as one of Africa’s brightest young talents.

The 19-year-old forward faces stiff competition for the coveted award. She is up against Egypt’s Habiba Sabry and Morocco’s Doha El Madani, both of whom have also had remarkable years in women’s football.

Sabry and El Madani’s nominations reflect their pivotal roles in advancing the sport in their respective countries, making the contest a highly anticipated one.

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday, December 16. It promises to be a night of celebration for African football as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) recognizes outstanding achievements across various categories.

Okwuchukwu’s nomination is a testament to her talent, dedication, and potential to become a force in African and global football.

Should she clinch the title, it would mark another milestone for Nigeria in the development of women’s football, further inspiring the next generation of players.

All eyes will be on Marrakech as the continent awaits the announcement of the winner.
