Lagos State government has said that the construction of Lagos- Calabar coastal high way will open business opportunities for the state and create more tourist attraction, just as it assured the stakeholders of the preservation of the tourism assets along the coastal area.
This was said by the state commissioner for tourism, arts and culture Mrs Toke Benson Awoyinka at a press briefing held at Bagauda Kaltho press centre, Alausa Ikeja, which was part of the activities to mark the first year of the second term of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
She however, appealed to those that may be affected by the construction to cooperate with the construction company, because the road is an important road that needs to be constructed because it will open the state to trade opportunities and expand its tourism industry.
According to the commissioner, in view of the huge tourism asset along the coastal areas of Iru land, and the need to assure relevant stakeholders of the protection of their interests, top officials from the ministry met with residents of Iru area of the state, particularly those that would be affected by the coastal road construction project by the federal government.
She noted that at the stakeholders engagement session held at the palace of the paramount ruler of Iru land Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan and the white cap chiefs, village heads form Iru land and various stakeholders provided an avenue for all those who would be affected by the construction work to deliberate on strategies for cooperation with government throughout the road construction.
Speaking on the activities of her ministry, Mrs Benson -Awosika said the ministry has expanded its partnership drive within and outside the country in order to continue to market Lagos as a destination of choice for local and international investors within the entertainment, hospitality sector.
She explained that, her ministry also maintained an improved symbiotic relationship with its stakeholders and developed policies that would guide tourism activities in the state and also implement different programmes and projects for the benefit of Lagos residents.
The commissioner said, her ministry also do tour of tourism assets across the state, which afforded the ministry the opportunity to take stock of its tourism assets and know their true states.
Mrs Benson – Awosika noted that, her ministry do promote all the festival activities in the state, and as well partner with tourists investors to promote the festival and make it avenue of generating revenue for the state.
