Nigerian singer and songwriter David Adedeji Adeleke professionally known as Davido alleged that he has been receiving threats following his remark on the Nigerian economy on an American podcast.
Recall that Davido on American podcast, ‘Big Homies House’, warned Black Americans and Nigerians especially against relocating to Nigeria, saying the Nigerian economy is in “shambles.”
The remarks earned him a series of backlash, with prominent Nigerians, including Joe Igbokwe, Reno Omokri and others criticizing and telling him to retract his remarks.
Davido announced on his X page that people were trying to cancel his forthcoming Lagos gig in December 24, 2024. He alleged that the threats to cancel his December show is over the remark he made.
In response to the threats, the singer boldly asserted that he does not need to perform in Nigeria, noting that he has a global fanbase and numerous performance options internationally.
He wrote: “Dem say dem go cancel my show cus of my interview … loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria.”
