Former DG Budget Office Passes Away

Bode Agusto, the former Director General of the Budget Office of Nigeria, breathed his last on Thursday.

Mr. Agusto, who held the position of DG Budget and Special Advisor to the President on Budget Matters from 2003 to 2007, left an indelible mark on the Nigerian financial landscape.

Educated in Accounting at the University of Lagos, Agusto augmented his expertise with an Executive Certificate in Strategy & Innovation from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan School of Management. Additionally, he was recognized as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

A veteran chartered accountant with over four decades of experience, Agusto notably spearheaded the establishment of Agusto & Co., a renowned Pan African Credit Rating Agency. This institution has maintained its reputation as a primary source of industry research in the region.

Budget office

Before his pioneering role at Agusto & Co., Agusto served with distinction at PwC for a decade, earning the position of Partner in 1991. His tenure at Nigeria International Bank (now Citibank Nigeria) included a significant contribution as Assistant Vice President and Head of the World Corporations Group.

In recognition of his contributions to the Nigerian economy, President Olusegun Obasanjo bestowed upon Agusto the prestigious national honor of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic in 2003. President Obasanjo subsequently appointed Agusto as the Director General and Special Advisor to the President on Budget Matters, illustrating the high esteem in which he was held.
