FUNAAB: The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, has addressed the recent poisoning allegations involving Oladokun Ayomide, a final-year student. Ayomide, accused of poisoning his girlfriend and another lady, is reported to have had no malicious intent, according to a statement from the university’s Media Directorate of Public Relations.

Ayomide was arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly administering a toxic substance, believed to be a combination of brownie cakes, alcohol, and an unknown harmful substance, to Ugbokwe Mmasichukwu and Odumosu Semilore. The incident occurred at Ayomide’s residence in the Surulere community, Camp area of the city, on Friday.

The university’s statement, issued by Assistant Director Olasunkanmi Olajide, reveals that the cakes purchased by Ayomide contained a high level of alcohol, leading to the unintentional intoxication of the victims. The university maintains that there was no malicious intent on Ayomide’s part.

“Ayomide had no malicious intent, as confirmed by the medical examination at their institution’s health centre. The affected individuals were discharged from the hospital the following day and even participated in their examinations on November 10, 2023.

“It is crucial to emphasise that all charges against Ayomide, brought forth by the parents and the school of the affected ladies, have been dropped due to the lack of malicious intent,” the school stated.

Omolola Odutola, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed Ayomide’s arrest. However, it was revealed that the student has been released on bail following a settlement by the parents of the students involved.

“He (Ayomide) is entitled to bail. The girl has recovered and she has also been discharged from the hospital. The parents have settled.”
