Nigerian famous Afrobeat musician, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu professionally known as Burna Boy has revealed that he is now richer than most of the Nigerian politicians and oil tycoons he once looked up to.
Music executive Jude Okoye during an Instagram live session with Daddy Freeze, a radio personality declared Burna Boy the richest Nigerian artiste, saying no other musician had raked in more money than the Grammy Award winner in the last four years standing at about a 100 million dollars.
“Anybody that is making any ridiculous money is Burna Boy. What I’m explaining to you is that Burna Boy made at least 80 – 100 million dollars in the last four years alone.
Don’t listen to what anybody tells you, Burna Boy is the richest, I’m telling you,” Okoye said.
Burna Boy made his financial status known in a post on his Instagram story while advising his followers not to underestimate those who are younger than them. While making the revelation the singer explained,
“Imagine growing up and only oil men and politicians were the ones really getting the real money followed by the G boys. Music wasn’t even in the conversation when money was the topic”. According to the musician everyone can hit success therefore it is important not undermine anyone’s potential.
He also noted that determination and perseverance can help one in achieving a whole lot.
“Now, an ugly black musician from Port Harcourt got more money than 90% of the people he looked up to as moneymakers.
“This is why I never count any young people out, because they could be Elon Musk 2moro typing this same message,” he wrote.
With Burna Boy’s fusion of dancehall, reggae, Afrobeat, and pop, Burna Boy is one of Nigeria’s best known stars. His single produced in 2012 ‘Like to Party’ paved the way for his full-length debut, L.I.F.E, a year later. Over the next five years, Burna released two more albums and collaborated with a variety of artists, including J Hus and Skales to Fall Out Boy and Lily Allen. His international exposure widened with 2018’s Outside, which hit number three on the Billboard Reggae chart and won the Nigeria Entertainment Award for Album of the Year. 2019’s African Giant and 2020’s Twice as Tall were both widely acclaimed and charted in so many countries. After becoming the first Nigerian to headline a show at Madison Square Garden, he released his hit sixth album, Love, Damini, in 2022.
