Nigerian rapper Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike professionally known as Phyno has shared his thoughts on the possible impact of marriage on the career of a musician.
The rapper was asked about his opinion on the matter in the latest episode of the ‘In My Opinion’ podcast, Phyno stated that marriage can hinder the success of a musician’s career.
He said: “Check everybody. Statistically, I feel so. Music is a jealous career”.
According to the musician many successful musicians have put off or abandoned their education to focus on their music.
He further stated: “That’s why people drop out of school to face music. The ones that had to juggle the two, you have to give them kudos because it is not easy,”
“Sometimes, some people get to a certain fame level and rush back to school and come back to continue from where they stopped because you have to actually face one. Music is tasking, it takes all your time.”
“Another thing about music is that it is what you pass through that you put into it, life experiences, except if you use songwriters.
But if you write your songs, you can not be talking about happiness when you have got a girlfriend that’s stressing you.” He added
Phyno began his music career as a producer in 2003 and primarily raps in Igbo. His debut studio album No Guts No Glory, which was released in March 2014, yielded the singles ‘Ghost Mode’, ‘Man of the Year’, ‘Parcel’ and ‘O Set’.
Although he primarily raps in Igbo, he incorporates a bit of Nigerian Pidgin and English into his music. Phyno believes the elements of music make it borderless.
Sputnet Records released the album’s second single, “Man of the Year (Obago)”, on 23 March 2013. The song won Best Rap Single at the 2013 Headies Awards.
