Nigerians have taken to social media to react to the death of Herbert Wigwe, the group chief executive officer of Access Holdings Plc who died in a helicopter crash in the United States.
Top Society reports that the CEO, his wife, Chizoba and their son were in the aircraft headed to Las Vegas when it crashed near a border city between Nevada and California on Friday night.
According to reports, the helicopter, a Eurocopter EC 130, was carrying six people on board at the time of the incident, including Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the group chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group).

Speaking about the incident, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said they were made aware of the downed aircraft shortly after 10 pm on Friday.
In a statement, they said,
“We are not able to confirm how many people were on board or their names. No survivors have been located.”

Nigerians took to the microblogging platform, X formerly Twitter to mourn the death of the Access bank CEO.

“You don’t even need to love Herbert Wigwe. His presence in the industry was just extremely influential. This is just sad.”

“We’re so used to mediocrity in Nigeria. Herbert Wigwe showed up and showed us just what excellence is. He espoused excellence. This is a national tragedy. He was so young. Allah Ya Jikansa, and his family. Great great man.”
