A video capturing Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke refusing to shake hands first with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi at a public event has caused a stir on social media.
In a video which has become a growing sensation, the governor could be seen walking towards the table where Oba Ogunwusi and others were seated.
In the footage, Oba Ogunwusi who stood on his feet, stretched his hands for a handshake, but Adeleke looks away and shakes hands with another traditional ruler.
However, media mogul and chieftain of the People Democratic Party (PDP) Dele Momodu, who was with the governor at the time of the incident, clarified in an Instagram post on Wednesday that Adeleke left his seat to greet the monarch.
He stressed that, Adeleke protrayed a sign of utmost respect for the first-class traditional ruler.

“This is the authentic video where Governor Ademola Adeleke left his seat to go and pay homage to His Imperial Majesty THE OONI OF IFE OBA ADEYEYE ENITAN OGUNWUSI OJAJA II as a mark of utmost respect for our foremost monarch.”
The short footage of the governor’s refusal to shake the Ooni at first instance however elicited various reactions from Nigerians on social media.
