Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, born on January 12, 1965, in Obe-Nla, an oil-rich community in the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, Nigeria, is a distinguished businessman and politician.

He has served as the governor of Ondo State since 2023, previously holding the role of deputy governor from 2021 to 2023 under Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Aiyedatiwa is widely recognized for his accomplishments in both business and governance, with an extensive background in public administration, economics, and development.

Early Life and Education

Aiyedatiwa began his educational journey at Saint Peter’s UNA Primary School (now FAC) in his hometown of Obe-Nla, where he studied between 1970 and 1976. For his secondary education, he attended Ikosi High School in Ketu, Lagos, completing it in 1982. His academic pursuits led him to Lagos State College of Education (now Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education) in Ijanikin, Lagos, where he studied Economics and Government, earning a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in 1986.

After a brief period as a classroom teacher, Aiyedatiwa’s interest in professional advancement spurred him to further his education. He obtained an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Ibadan, graduating with distinction in 2001. He later attended Lagos Business School, where he completed a Chief Executive Education (CEP) in Business Management in 2009. Pursuing a broader global perspective, Aiyedatiwa earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom in 2013.

Professional Career

Aiyedatiwa’s professional journey spans various industries, from education to business development. He initially worked as an Inventory/Store Officer with Scoa Assembly Plant Plc in Apapa, Lagos, between 1982 and 1983, and later as an Assistant Head Teacher at Reliance International Schools in Ibadan from 1987 to 1990. His career in business began in earnest when he took up the role of Marketing Officer with Universal Pharmaceutical Supply Co. Ltd. in Ikeja, Lagos, in 1990, eventually moving to Global Trust Limited in Gbagada, Lagos, as an Assistant Investment Analyst in 1992.

Aiyedatiwa’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to found Blue Wall Group of Companies in 1996. The group encompasses Blue Wall Nigeria Ltd., a general trading firm; Blue Wall BDC Nigeria Ltd., a licensed foreign exchange trading company; and Blue Wall Safety Travels and Tours, a travel agency and logistics company. Through these ventures, Aiyedatiwa gained expertise in marketing, financial management, human resources, and product development. Over the years, he attended various national and international training programs to hone his skills in crisis management, leadership, strategy, and project management.

Public Service and Political Career

Aiyedatiwa’s transition into public service began in 2011 when he joined the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), later merging into the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014. His dedication to the party earned him a position as one of Ondo State’s National Delegates to the APC National Convention in Abuja in 2014. He was also the party’s candidate for the Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency in the 2015 general elections, although he did not win the seat.

In 2018, Aiyedatiwa was appointed by then-President Muhammadu Buhari as the Federal Commissioner representing Ondo State on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Board. His tenure with NDDC allowed him to gain invaluable experience in development planning and public sector governance.

Aiyedatiwa’s political journey continued in 2020 when he joined Governor Rotimi Akeredolu as the APC ticket’s running mate for the Ondo State gubernatorial elections. They won the election, and on February 24, 2021, Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as Deputy Governor. His tenure as Deputy Governor was marked by a focus on infrastructural development, economic reforms, and improving access to education and healthcare across the state. When Governor Akeredolu’s term ended in 2023, Aiyedatiwa took on the role of governor, continuing his focus on sustainable development and economic growth for Ondo State.

Contributions to Society and Recognition

Aiyedatiwa has actively contributed to various social and professional bodies. He served as the National Public Relations Officer for the Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON) from 2004 to 2010 and was later appointed the Chairman of ABCON’s South West Zone from 2010 to 2011. Additionally, he held leadership positions in the Ilaje League of Professionals and was President of the Chief Executive Class ’18 of Lagos Business School’s Alumni Association.

He is an active alumnus of the University of Liverpool’s global network, serving as an executive member of the Lagos/South West Network. Aiyedatiwa has been recognized for his contributions to local governance and public administration, receiving a platinum award from the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration of Nigeria (CILGPAN) in 2021.
