The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on Nigerians to intensify prayers for the election of credible leaders from the 2027 general elections, stressing that Nigeria’s future will largely be determined by the emergence of responsible, God-fearing, and visionary leadership.
The President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) spoke on Wednesday in his Eid-el-Kabir message, where he also harped on the need for spiritual reflection, national unity, and collective commitment toward building a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
In what observers described as a spiritually and politically significant message ahead of the 2027 elections, the Sultan urged Muslims and Nigerians in general not to relent in praying for divine guidance in the emergence of leaders capable of addressing the nation’s socio-economic and security challenges.
“Our prayers are always the guiding light toward the choice of our leaders; therefore, we should sustain more prayers in our quest for the best country we desire,” he stated.
Abubakar argued that beyond political campaigns and electoral activities, Nigeria’s democratic future and stability would require sincere prayers, patriotism, justice, competence, and leaders driven by the fear of God.
He also charged Nigerians to uphold the virtues of sacrifice, obedience, tolerance, and devotion demonstrated during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, noting that the season provides important lessons for national rebirth and peaceful coexistence.
Describing the Eid-el-Kabir as a period of deep spiritual reflection, love, and sacrifice, the NSCIA Leader prayed for enduring peace, unity, and prosperity across the country.
He expressed optimism that Nigerians would witness future celebrations under improved economic and security conditions.
Abubakar also prayed for the safe journey and successful return of all Nigerian pilgrims, while urging leaders at all levels to prioritise national interest, justice, and the wellbeing of citizens above personal or political considerations as the country inches towards another electoral cycle in 2027.
