Grammy-winning Nigerian musician Wizkid was seen in a deeply emotional state during the wake-keeping service for his late mother, Madam Juliana Morayo Balogun, held at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos on Thursday, October 12, 2023.
Videos circulating on social media captured the poignant moment when Wizkid took to the stage to deliver a moving speech about the profound pain he’s experiencing following his mother’s passing.
In his heartfelt address, the “Mummy Mi” singer expressed the immense grief he feels, describing it as the most profound sorrow he has ever faced.
With a heavy heart, Wizkid conveyed his prayers for solace and comfort from God for himself, his siblings, and their extended family. Despite the overwhelming emotional turmoil, the music superstar expressed gratitude to his sisters, uncles, and other family members for their support during this difficult time.

“I have no words to describe the pain that I feel. It’s impossible for the pain to go away so I’m not going to say take away the pain. The pain is profound, it hurts deeply, It’s the deepest pain I’ve ever felt in my life. I’m lost but I pray God comforts every one of us. I just want to thank everyone here today, I didn’t even believe I’d be able to do this tonight but I just want to thank my sisters, Sister Yetunde, Sister Lara, Busayo and my family, my dad, Brother Segun, Bose, Fausat, my mums sisters, and her brothers, Uncle Sanya, Aunty Labisi, everybody and I just hope that God is going to help us through this pain.”
“I’m lost without you, Mom. I love you so much. I love you,” he added.
The family previously disclosed the details of her funeral arrangements and commemorative ceremony through an electronic flyer shared on various social media platforms last Sunday.
Wizkid, Family Begin Preparations for Mother’s Funeral
The announcement outlined a wake and tribute scheduled for October 12 in honor of the departed, followed by the funeral service on the subsequent day, October 13.
On July 26, 1990, Wizkid was born in Surulere, Lagos, and raised in a polygamous household with a Muslim father and a Christian mother. His father entered into matrimony with three wives.
Wizkid’s mother frequently graced his concerts and events, being a familiar presence.
She entered this world on July 14, 1957, and leaves behind her husband, M.O Balogun, and four children: Yetunde Balogun, Omolara Osunkoya, Olubusayo Balogun, Ayodeji Balogun (Wizkid), along with several grandchildren.
