Nigerian actress, Ufuoma McDermott has opened up in an interview about her 12-year struggle with kidney disease and how it changed her life.
In an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, the actress revealed that her battle with the condition began years ago, not too long after she lost her younger brother to chronic kidney disease.
The mother of two said she was also diagnosed with Stage 3 kidney disease last year and was told to slow down at work and rest, but she thought she had more time.
The actress noted that despite the warnings of her doctors, she stressed her body, and she was shortly diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney disease which happens to be the final stage.
In a short video shared by Chude Jideonwo on Instagram, Ufuoma discussed her health journey, her determination to live for her children, and the toll her condition has taken on her daily life.
She said in part: “I had pushed my body and I was borderline stage 4. Last year was a very very trying time in my life where I thought I was gonna die. I have battled chronic kidney disease for about 12 years now.”
Ufuoma said she had thought about dying because of what happened to her brother.
The movie star added that she found her way back from Stage 4 kidney disease, and it changed how she lived her life. She said she cannot afford to add weight due to the health condition.
She also shared how she managed her career while dealing with this in private and why this life changing experience has transformed the way she lives her life today.
Now on the road to recovery,the actress has embraced a fresh outlook on life and a stronger commitment to self-care. She also shared for the first time how she balances her work in Nigeria with family life abroad, appreciating the privacy it has brought her.
