Accord Chairman Shot in Osun, Police Begin Investigation

The chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Asimiyu Ajibola, popularly known as Baba Isila, was shot by suspected gunmen on Wednesday night in Osogbo.

The attack happened around 9:50 p.m. near the MDS area, close to the Osogbo Community Bank axis. Residents were thrown into panic as gunshots were heard in the area.

According to an eyewitness, the gunmen targeted a blue Toyota Corolla carrying Ajibola and some of his associates.

The attackers reportedly chased the vehicle and fired several shots at it in what appeared to be a planned attack.

The occupants of the car managed to escape and drove to the Dugbe Divisional Police Headquarters in Osogbo, where they sought protection. Th

e attackers fled the scene afterwards.
Ajibola was later taken to the University of Osun Teaching Hospital in Osogbo for treatment after sustaining injuries during the attack.

Reacting to the incident, Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, condemned the shooting and called for a thorough investigation. He said those responsible must be identified and brought to justice.

Alimi also urged the police to carry out a professional investigation, noting that there were indications the attack might have political motives.

The Osun State Police Command confirmed on Thursday that it had launched a full investigation into the incident.

Police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said two armed men riding a motorcycle allegedly carried out the attack. He added that officers responded quickly, took the victim to a hospital, and deployed tactical teams to track down the suspects.

According to the police, Ajibola is in stable condition and responding well to treatment. Evidence recovered from the scene is currently being examined as investigators work to identify and arrest those responsible.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, condemned the attack and ordered a high-level investigation. He directed all relevant units to use every available resource to uncover the circumstances surrounding the shooting and ensure the suspects are arrested and prosecuted.
