President Bola Tinubu has taken decisive steps by inviting members of the Ondo Assembly to a crucial meeting in Abuja scheduled for Friday.

The rift between Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and Deputy Lucky Aiyedatiwa has deepened, prompting intervention calls from prominent elders and traditional rulers during the week.

Sources reveal that 11 lawmakers from the Ondo Assembly have aligned themselves with Deputy Aiyedatiwa, and it is believed that external influences have played a role in rallying their support. This development has split the assembly and postponed a scheduled sitting on Friday, where there were purported plans to declare Governor Akeredolu incapacitated and elevate Aiyedatiwa to the position of Governor.

Speaker Oladiji Olamide confirmed the upcoming meeting with President Tinubu and emphasized that the outcome would significantly impact the course of action.

He clarified that the intended Friday plenary was not aimed at declaring Akeredolu incapacitated but rather to designate Aiyedatiwa as the Acting Governor.

He mentioned that the session with President Tinubu is scheduled for Friday afternoon.

“Our sitting was to declare Aiyedatiwa as Acting Governor. The Governor is still alive,” he said.
