Following his removal as the Rivers State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tony Okocha is leading a mega rally in Port Harcourt to show solidarity for President Bola Tinubu.
Members of the Renewed Hope Family of Rivers State, led by Tony Okocha, from various local governments in the state, assembled in large numbers at the Port Harcourt Polo Club.
They carried banners with inscriptions showing their support for President Tinubu.
It is unclear what this march will achieve, but as of the time of filing this report, they are marching down Aba Road, causing heavy traffic congestion due to their large numbers.
On Monday, the Rivers State High Court sacked the caretaker committee chairman, Tony Okocha.
Justice Sika Aprioku nullified the removal of Emeka Beke as APC chairman and reinstated him.
The court also nullified the dissolution of the elected state working committee led by Beke while simultaneously nullifying the appointment of Okocha and his caretaker committee members.
The judge further issued an order restraining Okocha and his members from parading themselves as executive members of the APC in the oil-rich state.
In a swift reaction, Okocha questioned the judge’s motive in delivering the judgment against him, insisting that he is still in charge and that he is appealing the judgment.
In a separate press briefing, Beke thanked his supporters for standing firm and praised the judiciary for not being intimidated.
When asked about other issues, Beke stated that the APC would take part in the council elections and that Martin Amaewhule and 24 other lawmakers are members of the APC and would be invited to pledge their loyalty in the coming days.
