Mr. Laolu Akande, a former spokesperson for ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has said there is no reason to believe that Osinbajo has quit politics or left the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during an interview with Pressmen on Sunday in Lagos, Akande addressed rumors about Osinbajo’s political future.

These speculations arose because Osinbajo has been largely absent from political activities since leaving office in 2023.

The former Vice President had contested the APC presidential primary in 2022 but lost to Bola Tinubu, who is now the President. Osinbajo had also served as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 during Tinubu’s tenure as governor.

Some observers suggest Osinbajo stepped back from politics due to his primary loss, while others believe he has focused more on his role as Global Advisor for the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP).

When asked about Osinbajo’s political stance, Akande explained that to his knowledge, Osinbajo has not left politics or the APC. He added that Osinbajo would attend any APC meeting or event if invited.

“I don’t want to involve him in my comments, but there’s no reason to think he’s no longer in the APC. He’s still a member. If he gets an invitation to an APC caucus meeting, he’ll attend,” Akande said.
