The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a restraining order preventing the Ondo State House of Assembly from impeaching Deputy Governor of the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, over allegations of gross misconduct.
The ruling came after Aiyedatiwa’s counsel, Kayode Adewusi, presented an ex-parte motion. The order also stopped Governor Rotimi Akeredolu from nominating a new deputy governor pending a substantive hearing.
Justice Emeka Nwite, after considering Adewusi’s arguments, deemed it in the interest of justice to grant the application.
In the case marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1294/2023, Mr. Aiyedatiwa sued the Inspector-General of Police and the Department of State Services, along with other respondents including Governor Akeredolu and the Speaker of the House of Assembly.
The judge also issued an interim injunction preventing Akeredolu and his associates from harassing, intimidating, or obstructing Mr. Aiyedatiwa in carrying out his deputy governor duties. The case is scheduled for a hearing on October 9th.
Furthermore, Mr. Aiyedatiwa filed another suit (marked AK/348/2023) in the High Court in Akure, seeking to halt the state’s house of assembly from proceeding with his impeachment until his case in the court is determined.
