Port Harcourt – The recently appointed Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olatunji Disu, has refuted claims of an assassination attempt on the factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie.

Disu asserted during a press briefing outside the Executive Council Chambers after a courtesy visit to Governor Siminalayi Fubara that preliminary investigations did not support Ehie’s allegations.

Factional Rivers Speaker Narrowly Escapes Assassination Attempt

Ehie had earlier reported a murder attempt, but CP Disu clarified that the police officers involved were part of a routine convoy patrol the previous night.

Despite the serious nature of the allegations, the Commissioner emphasized that no official complaint had been received from the lawmaker.

“For now, I haven’t gotten anything like that,” stated CP Disu when questioned about the absence of a formal complaint from Edison Ehie. He urged the factional speaker to reach out to the police with relevant information and assured the public that there is currently no cause for concern.

The police have been actively trying to establish contact with Edison Ehie, formerly the Leader of the State House of Assembly, to gather necessary details regarding the alleged incident. CP Disu announced his intention to make his contact number public, encouraging both the factional speaker and the general public to report any concerns.

During the courtesy visit, CP Disu assured Governor Siminalayi Fubara of his commitment to understanding and addressing the complex security situation in the state. Having previously overseen the state Criminal Investigation Department and served as the head of Divisional Police Officers in two Divisional Headquarters, Disu pledged to lead an intelligence-driven force and collaborate with local communities to combat crime effectively.

Governor Fubara, addressing the new CP and his management team, emphasized the need for professionalism in handling security matters. He assured them that his administration would not make unreasonable demands from the police and pledged support for their effective functioning.

The governor urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement by providing relevant information to ensure the safety and security of the state.

The deployment of CP Olatunji Disu follows the recent political crisis in the Rivers State House of Assembly, and the Commissioner remains focused on maintaining peace and security in the region.
